The Miracle of the Sun

of 1917 in Fátima, Portugal, there were 3 children: Lúcia dos Santos (10 years old), Francisco Marto (9 years old) and Jacinta Marto (7 years old). They did not know how to read or write and lived their life in the countryside, other than World War I or the Russian Revolution, which overthrew the Russian autocracy and brought the Bolshevik Party of Vladimir Lenin to power. What these children did was play and care for the animals.

But it all changed on May 13, 1917, when they claimed to have seen "... a lady brighter than the Sun" over a holm oak one meter or more high, when they were feeding a small flock in the Cova da Iria , near the village of Aljustrel. Lúcia saw, listened and spoke with the apparition, Jacinta saw and heard and Francisco saw but it did not hear.

The Virgin appeared five more times and the last Apparition on October 13, 1917 was expected a miracle. On this day, more than 70 thousand people were in Cova da Iria. The woman who appeared to the three shepherds revealed the Virgin Mary. She said, "I want you to make a chapel here in My honor, that I am the Lady of the Rosary, that you always continue to pray the rosary every day. The war will be over and the military will soon be back home.

Lúcia then at the end of the conversation tells the crowd to look at the Sun and everyone witnessed something spectacular that became known as The Miracle of the Sun.

It rained a lot in the day, very much and there was mud everywhere in the Cova da Iria. Even so, more than 70 thousand people went to witness one more Marian apparition. And they observed what was known as the Miracle of the Sun.

After a torrential rain, the clouds dissipated in the firmament and the Sun appeared like an opaque disk, spinning in the sky. Some said that it was not the Sun, but a disk in solar proportions, similar to the Moon. It was said to be observable significantly less bright than normal, accompanied by multicolored lights reflecting on the landscape, people and clouds around. It was reported that the so-called Sun would have moved with a zig-zag pattern, scaring many of those who witnessed it, who thought it was the end of the world. Many witnesses reported that the soil and previously wet clothing were completely dry in a short time, and also reported unexplained cures of paralytics and the blind, and other unexplained diseases, in many cases also evidenced by medical testimony.

According to witness reports, the Miracle of the Sun lasted about ten minutes. The three children reported having observed Jesus, Our Lady of the Conception and St. Joseph blessing the crowd in the firmament.

People more than 40 km from the Cova da Iria observed the Miracle of the Sun.

The event was officially accepted as a miracle by the Catholic Church on October 13, 1930. On October 13, 1951, Cardinal Tedeschini states that on October 30, October 31 and November 1 and November 8, the Pope Pius XII witnessed a similar miracle in the Vatican gardens.

What actually happened? Of course, the Sun did not leave the place, otherwise there would be disastrous consequences for our Solar System. Mass Hallucination? Is 70,000 people really freaked out?
